Christmas Opening hours

This is our very first Christmas at A Pickled Thought and, as cheesy as it may sound, Christmas to us has always been about family. So with that in mind we will be increasing the number of days we are open and extending our hours giving you more choice about when you can visit us.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday we will be open 11am - 5pm

And on Thursday and Saturday it will be 11am - 6pm

Plus on the 17th, 18th and 19th December we will be open from 11am - 7pmAnd if that isn’t enough you can visit us 24/7 on our website - I’m pretty hot on my emails too!

New things

We have a couple new things coming into the gallery this month!

There will be a whole new series of drawings in the gallery when we re-open on December 2nd, some of which you may have noticed popping up on to our instagram in the form of blue toned landscapes!

We have also added two more collections to our card range, some of which have been asked for by you our lovely followers. See “little bird” in collection four and others which have been taken from brand new paintings including some autumnal landscapes.

If you have any suggestions  as to which cards or limited edition prints you would like to see next, just get in contact here ; we always love to hear from you!

Gift Ideas

Christmas present ideas this year, to me at least, have been somewhat elusive ! As my lovely mother Charlie tends to buy herself all of the best things, I normally end up getting her socks. However this has its virtues as I now have a list of lovely gifts to suggest which have been tried and tested by us over the last few months.

First we have two books from two very different artists but with threads of connections……

Here are Charlie’s words on them:

‘On my cushion this week are two books Amy Sillman’s Faux Pas and David Sylvester’s Interviews with Francis Bacon. These two don't need reading cover to cover, instead they can easily be digested a bite at a time. Within these pages both artists offer an insight into their own methodologies whilst offering up ways to understand the complexity of an art practice. The best feature being that they are written in an easy yet evocative style, well that and the example pictures!’

Second, we have some eco friendly oil mediums:

The Oil Painting Sample Cube from Chelsea Classical Studios offers all the uses of traditional oil mediums but with out any of the toxins. They are better for the environment and your health!

This sample cube lets you test the products yourself first with out buying the full size bottles. The set contains: 1oz bottles of Linseed Oil Extra Pale Cold-pressed, Walnut Oil Extra Pale Cold-pressed, Lean Medium, Fat Medium, Lavender Spike Oil Essence, Lavender Damar Varnish, Lavender Brush Cleaner and a 2oz bar of Lavender and Olive Oil Brush Soap.

Third and last we have a punch needle :

A punch needle, yes okay this might be a bit out of the blue but give me a minute. These little crafty tools are a great way to relax and create small or even large textiles in a way that allows you to easily undo mistakes !! Which to be honest is my favourite feature of it ! You can make anything from plant pot covers to rugs, patches to pillow cases. It’s a fun and easy way to let someone know you are thinking about them or to start selling small crafts. It is easy to transform your imagination into physical loopy designs, and the best bit is there are loads of YouTube tutorials to help.

A Colouring Page

We thought it would be a nice idea to include a hand drawn colouring sheet at the end of this week’s newsletter, for that much needed meditation and distraction. Inspired by lockdown it features a hidden lock and key, if you want to show us what you have done tag us on instagram @apickledthought or email us at apickledthought@gmail.com.
